Plastering
Traditionally called ‘float and set’, the ‘float’ coat is a base coat of plaster applied to brick or block
work, ruled flat using a straight edge or darby and then ‘set’ with a thin coat of finishing plaster
ready for painting
Skimming
Skimming involves a thin coat of finishing plaster that can be applied to a variety of backgrounds,
both used on new work and refurbs to leave a paintable surface.
Rendering
External rendering covers everything from traditional sand and cement or lime render through to
modern through colour systems like monocouche, silicone etc/ renders are used to both protect
and enhance the look of a property
Dry Lining
Most often used on new properties, is the fixing of plasterboard to both walls and ceilings, either
mechanically to timber or aluminium framing or in the case of masonry (block or brick work) stuck
using drywall adhesive
